Dental Exams & Cleanings
What are Cleanings and Dental Exams?
Exams and cleanings are essential parts of keeping your teeth healthy and strong. Cleanings are performed by licensed and registered dental hygienists who work to clear away tartar and other heavy debris. Exams give us an idea of any problems that might be happening so that treatment is easier and less invasive. It is a good idea to make it a routine habit to spend time in the office every six months for both a cleaning and an exam.
Why would Cleanings and Exams be necessary?
Regardless of your current state of oral health, it is important to become proactive about your smile. Exams allow us to see if you’re experiencing any issues right now so that we can provide you with treatment that is easier, less invasive and more affordable. Despite the products you use at home, it is a good idea to have a cleaning done professionally roughly twice a year. The cleaning removes tartar that has been able to build up on your teeth, which could actually contribute to decay and gum disease.
What makes someone a candidate for Cleanings and Exams?
Every one of your family members should be coming into the office for regular cleanings and exams. Parents should consider bringing their children in as soon as their baby teeth begin to develop. For adults, it will never be too late to come into the practice for a cleaning and expert examination. We offer care in a nonjudgmental manner regardless of how long it’s been since your last appointment.
What can be expected during a Cleaning and Exam?
The appointment often begins with a professional cleaning, which is expertly performed by our trained dental hygienist. The hygienist uses special tools known as scalers to clear away heavy tartar and surface stains from your teeth. The teeth will next be polished and flossed before a complete health check on your gums is done. The gum health check is painless and allows us to see if you have either gingivitis or gum disease. From there, an exam is performed to look for cavities, damaged teeth and even signs of lesions and lumps. We have the ability to then set a date for you to come back in for another checkup visit in six months.
