PRP Therapy

What is PRP Therapy?

Platelet rich plasma treatment, often referred to as PRP, is a way to improve your ability to heal after having oral surgery. Treatment involves taking a small vial of your own blood and separating its content. The plasma is then extracted from the sample and placed over surgical sites to help in the healing process. Not only does PRP treatment help your body to heal naturally, but it can be helpful in preventing infections.

Why might PRP Therapy be needed?

You might feel uncomfortable about your smile if it’s severely crowded or crooked. You might be looking for a way to straighten your teeth without needing to wear traditional metal braces. Clear aligners nearly invisible to the naked eye, so no one will even know that you’re wearing braces. The aligners are removable, allowing you to fully and properly clean your teeth to keep them healthy.

Who is a candidate for PRP Therapy?

Clear aligner treatment is ideal for many patients who are able to commit to treatment. Because the aligners can be removed and need to be replaced, smaller children and young teens may not be the best candidates for treatment. With the help of an exam and dental x-rays, we can determine if clear aligners are right for you. Most of our patients who either need or want this treatment can safely and effectively come in for care.

What happens during PRP Therapy?

Clear aligner treatment begins with a consultation. This appointment will involve an exam, x-rays and impressions. The impressions are used to make your first set of clear aligners. You’ll be instructed on when and how long to wear the aligners each day in order for them to work effectively. You will then need to come back into the office after a few weeks to have new aligners made as your teeth begin to shift. Treatment can take anywhere from a few months to several years to complete depending on the patient.
